Safe Place Program - Register to Join

As a participant in the Safe Place Program:

  • I am an advocate for GLBT people.
  • I want to improve the campus community by developing skills of listening, mentoring and supporting individuals.
  • I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in.
  • I am glad to be a Safe Place person for someone who is GLBT to speak with.
  • I am glad to be a Safe Place person for someone who knows others who are GLBT.
  • I will respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • I will provide information and reference support when needed.
  • I will work to confront negative attitudes on campus and improve the climate for diversity throughout our community.
  • I understand that it is okay to be imperfect with regards to homophobia and heterosexism. It is okay that I do not know all the answers, and if times I may ask what appears to be a stupid question. I realize that it is better to ask my questions than to leave them unanswered.
  • I will make an effort to educate others about the issues surrounding GLBT issues.

As a Safe Place Person, I understand I will:

  • Have my name placed on the Safe Place website as a "Safe Place Person" with my campus contact information.
  • Receive periodic email updates concerning GLBT issues on campus and/or activities from Keweenaw Pride (the campus GLBT group).
  • Receive the email newsletter from the MTU Safe Place Coordinator.
  • Remove all Safe Place items and contact the Safe Place Coordinator, should I relocate office or place of residence.
