Safe Place Training

Structure of the Training Process

The Safe Place Ally Training Program educates faculty and staff about GLBTQ identities, the needs of GLBTQ students, the coming out process, ways to create an inclusive classroom environment, the harassment reporting process, and the resources available on and off campus.

Utilizing video diaries from students and small group discussions, the Michigan Tech Safe Place Program is designed to be a comprehensive and in-depth resource for faculty and staff. Structured as four steps, the training takes approximately four hours from beginning to end, but the training times listed below are designed to provide options that will accommodate a variety of schedules.

Faculty and staff who signed up to be Safe Place Allies prior to June 2011 are asked to register for Safe Place training. Once the steps of the training process have been completed, renewing Allies will be given a redesigned Safe Place sticker to display outside their office.
